School Food Programs

Going to school with an empty stomach or without enough food to get through the school day is a reality for many children in Saskatoon. We run a series of school food programs that work to ensure that all children have fresh, nutritious food to eat at school so they can focus on learning and being kids!

Innovation School Food Program

All students need nutritious food to eat during school days. Sponsored by Innovation Federal Credit Union, our Innovation School Food Program prepares, packages, and delivers fresh brown bag lunches to students at local schools without in-house nutrition programs. This program is based out of a centralized kitchen at North Park Wilson School and serves students that don’t have access to food during their school day.

Bulk Buying

Through our Bulk Buying program, CHEP Good Food offers bulk purchasing options for produce, dairy, and bread to schools, and community-based and community-serving organizations throughout Saskatoon. Here is how it works and some benefits to the program:

  • Subsidized purchasing is available to select schools through Bulk Buying credits, funded by the Ministry of Education.

  • For their in-house nutrition programs, schools place orders directly through CHEP’s Centralized Purchaser and receive weekly deliveries throughout the school year.

  • This program reduces the need for school and organizational staff to shop at multiple retailers, saving time and resources.

  • Bulk Buying helps in-house nutrition programs remain cost-effective and nutritionally dense, helping food budgets go further and improving nutrition.

Each year, we deliver thousands of cases of food to schools for use in their in-house nutrition programs.

Universal School Lunch Program

In partnership with Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation and the Saskatoon Public School Division, we support the Universal School Lunch Program—funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC)—by delivering lunches from a centralized kitchen located in Lakeview Church to participating schools in Saskatoon. 

This project promotes healthy eating among primary students from pre-kindergarten to Grade 8 and is an expansion from an existing lunch pilot project that CHEP Good Food was also a part of. Eventually, the Universal School Lunch Project will expand up to 10 schools.
