For many seniors living in Saskatoon, accessing fresh food each week can be difficult. Some have mobility issues that make getting around a challenge. Many face transportation issues and if they do not have a grocery store within walking distance, they must rely on family or friends, taxis or public transit.
CHEP Good Food assists some seniors by bringing a grocery store to their home. Seniors Stores are travelling pop-up markets that visit different seniors’ residences on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. These markets set up in residence lobbies or common rooms and provide an array of fresh fruits and vegetables, breads, eggs, dairy and baking at affordable prices.
Many seniors enjoy these markets as an opportunity to visit with neighbours and in winter time especially, they appreciate the convenience of not having to venture out.
