The Good Food Box program is permanently closing

After 26 years of collaborative community building, CHEP Good Food’s Board of Directors has decided to permanently close the Good Food Box program.

Our Board of Directors didn’t come to this decision lightly. Over the past number of years, the demand for the Good Food Box program has greatly decreased and it is felt that the program no longer impacts food insecurity in our community in the ways our organization wants to focus on. Going forward, this change will most notably allow our organization to bolster internal infrastructure, reallocate financial and staff resources, and keep and cross-train current staff, among other capacity increasing efforts.

We want to take a moment to thank our long-time supporters such as producers, volunteers, community groups, partners, Good Food Box purchasers and more, for your steadfast commitment to building community capacity and for your continuous, intentional relationships with our organization over the years. Simply put, from farms to households, this longstanding program wouldn’t have existed without all of us working together!

Some logistical considerations for the closure of the Good Food Box program are the following:
-The last Good Food Box packing day will be on April 17th, 2024 (order by April 9th).
-We encourage folks with Good Food Box certificates to use them before the program closes; however, outstanding certificates will be honoured at our Community Markets after the last Good Food Box.

If you have any questions or would like to further discuss the closure of the program, you can contact us at the following:

-Gord Androsoff, Executive Director; 306-986-5837; executivedirector@chep.org
-Heather Jackle, Community Relations Coordinator; 306-986-5834; communityrelations@chep.org .

We appreciate your understanding as we navigate these organizational changes moving forward and as we aim to focus on working within schools and the community to provide direct support to folks experiencing food insecurity.
