Urban Ag Coordinator

CHEP Good Food Inc facilitates food security initiatives such as collective kitchens, children's nutrition education programs, Good Food Box, community gardening and other programs. 

 Our organization currently has an opening for an Urban Ag Coordinator.  

 

Hours of work:

This is a seasonal position (April-November) with full-time hours. Part-time hours over the winter months (December to March). Flexible work schedule is involved (ie some weekend and evenings). The position is slated to begin immediately once a candidate has been secured.

Work related Duties:

The position will administer the work of community garden coordination, backyard garden coordination and be able to facilitate a good working relationship with our partners in this work, including the City of Saskatoon, schools and community groups.

The Coordinator will also assist gardeners with some skills development/enhancement. Occasional event organizing is required (ie Seedy Saturday, workshops).

Involvement in committees pertaining a CHEP representative (such as urban ag committee of the Saskatoon Food Council)


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
-Experience motivating participants and working with community groups
-Horticulture knowledge and experience (At least 5 years)

-Understanding of the community garden network in Saskatoon (or how community gardens operate)
-Initiative and energy - ability to see what needs to be done and willingness to take on all tasks necessary for success.  

-Ability to work with little supervision.
-Excellent interpersonal skills - ability to get along with diverse people, positive listening skills, good team player, sense of humour.

-Understanding of and experience in working with community-based groups
-Interest in working with children, youth and families.
-Enjoyment of outdoor, physical work.
-Excellent organizational skills
-Successful applicant will need to have a police record check and clean driver's license
-Understanding of some City of Saskatoon departments (ie planning, parks) considered an asset
